Sisters and Brothers,
I have pondered and prayed about what I might say in the aftermath of the Sunday’s mass murder.  Without a doubt this was a crime motivated by hate.  The origins of that hate may never be fully known. First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas, is on the hearts and minds of everyone.  The families that will forever be changed by the acts of one person who was filled with hate and rage.
Sunday was the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church.  I spoke of those in other nations who are threatened with beatings, jail and death for sharing their faith in Jesus Christ with others.  I spoke of the Freedom From Religion organization and their efforts to eradicate the public sharing of faith here in the United States.
God’s Word says we are to pray for those who persecute us.  (Matthew 5:43-48)  “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”  (Matthew 5:4)
Let us not live in fear  “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7)
There are some who have said they are afraid to go to church and will keep their families at home.  I understand that strong emotion to protect your loved ones.  But do not give in to the schemes of the devil.  Let us shine the light of God’s redeeming love into a hurting world.  “This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine…. Hide it under a bushel? NO!  I’m gonna let it shine.”
Your sister in Christ,
Pastor Grace
